Not reliable March 14, 2010 George John (NY,USA) I have to say that the performance of the router (speed, range) is pretty good but it is not reliable. I had to unplug/replug the power on the router atleast once in 2-3 days for the wireless to be detected by my wireless enabled laptop. This was really annoying. Also the reset button (blue) button on top was a joke. If you press it in, it stays in and doesn't pop back out. I ended up returning this router and got the Netgear Wndr3700.
Never thought my A.L (After Linksys) router would turn out to be Belkin but it works March 13, 2010 R.G (Fla) Let me start out by saying that after my 5 yr old linksys router finally died out on me, I decided to research and look for the next router that had enough features to still be relevant in a couple of years. More importantly, I needed a router that I could handle heavy wireless loads from tasks such as streaming HD and multimedia files from my pc to PS3. My decision? D-Link DIR-655 -- The reviews on this router were mixed but overall most agreed that the router had great throughput. Unfortunately, throughput doesn't always equate to good wireless performance. Prior to my Linksys dying, I had used it for all sorts of internet activities, it was a reliable work horse, day in and day out. It also performed admirably for streaming multimedia from my pc to ps3, although sometimes it did choke up on hd content. So back to the DIR-655 --- I figured, ok, if my old wrt54gs linksys could hang in there and handle most streaming tasks, I imagine a router twice as expensive, combined with todays advancements in technology (better chipsets, more ram, cpu horepower, etc), should give me all I could ever want in a router and then some, right? Wrong. The DIR-655 couldn't even stream SD media files without having intermittent hiccups, let alone higher bitrate ones. I tried everything in the book without success which ultimately led me to return the poor thing back to Amazon. It was one of those moments where I thought, "maybe i should of kept it simple and just gone for another b/g only band router". After further research, but with some reluctance, I decided to give the Belkin N+ a try. Most reviewers (not on amazon) agreed this router has good wireless performance, and it turns out it does. As Im typing this, Im streaming a full HD file to my PS3 without a hiccup. This router performs as good if not better than my WRT54GS. The same files I was pulling out hairs out in trying to get the DIR-655 to stream without choking up, I was able to stream without issues on this Belkin router -- just goes to show you, you can't always judge a book by its cover. In the end, if you are looking for a router with good routing and wireless performance, you can't go wrong with the Belkin N+.
Now, I wanted to mention this, since Ive read many bad reviews on Amazon, and Im honestly trying to understand how they're using their router or what applications or settings their running that has ultimately led them to such bad experiences. Someone mentioned they cannot use their router with anything other than WEP 64bit encryption otherwise their router would lockup. Im not having that issue and Im running my belkin n+ with full 128bit encryption, mixed mode, b/g/n+
I cannot comment for those who are experiencing any issues with the storage features, but I can say that in researching pretty much every router from a-z with similar features in the same price range up to the wndr7000 (netgear), most of these routers with shared storage features suffer from problems (slow transfers or unreliable performance overall).... just a thought
Just what the doctor ordered. March 10, 2010 S. Chwalisz My netgxxx gigabit router fried on me a few days ago (a problem with that particular model) This Belkin N+ was the least expensive gigabit N router I could find at retailer since I needed it right away.
-The CD setup was VERY EASY and fast too. I think I was up running in ten minutes.
-The lights on the front are nice. I just noticed my internet down, and the blue "globe" light was flashing. A reboot of the modem fixed the internet.
-The throughput is FAST (as fast or faster than my old gigabit router)
-It is 3 weeks and no router reboot yet.
-It works with our WII out of the box
The only negative is the CD setup leaves your login connection open and logged in without a password. I had to go to 192.168.X.X and set an admin password to secure it. Interface was pretty simple to figure out.
Deffective March 10, 2010 Kevin N. Garrett Had to return the device after a week.
After spending days off and on with Belkin Tech's, their conclusion was a defective unit.
The device after 6 to 8 hours would drop the internet connection and the wireless never did work correctly. Had to go through the entire setup again to get it to work for another 6 to 8 hours.
The device does have an easy setup, but it appears they have a way to go with their hardware and/or software.

I went from a D-Link router to this one and have nothing but praises for its ease of set-up, speed and reliability. I have had no issues with any of my components jacking into my home network. Speed is great for everything (online gaming, Skype, file-sharing, media streaming...).
My guests and family who have WiFi-enabled gadgets are easily able to jack into my network (once they have the security key, that is).
Excellent choice for a home network.
