Unstable Router July 25, 2010 M. Wu (NJ, USA) I have this router for about half a year now. It was working, not great but works. One night, I decided to turn it off. Since then, it was never the same, router only last for couple hrs initially and getting worse and worse. It just drop connections all of a sudden.
I went thought Tech Support using e-mail
They asked me to change settings and upgraded firmware. It was completely wasting time. They do not even tell you how long the warranty is. I guess they do not want to replace the unit.
My $15 dollar belkin was working better, at least it last for a week. I can not believe turn off power would cause this kind issue.
Easy set up and works well June 29, 2010 Gamer (Atlanta, GA United States) I just picked up this router a few days ago for a new laptop. My current set up is with AT&T dsl and other routers I tried did not mesh well with this system. Either they would drop the connection or download speeds were extremely slow. The set up on this router was a snap; just pop in the disk and the program walks you through the rest. The connections are color and symbol coded which makes set up easy for those new to wireless routers. Initial set up took about 8 minutes from start to finish and my laptop recognized the connection immediately. So far, I have no complaints regarding performance. The unit powers up and makes connections in under a minute. Speeds are comparable to a wired connection and I have not experienced any dropped connections.
Both the router and the power brick are small and stay cool. While the unit is constructed primarily of plastic, it feels solid and doesn't look cheap or like a toy. There is a small power button located on the back of the unit which can be located easily by touch. The front panel is silver with multiple small indicator lights in green and blue and while they are a bit bright, they serve the function in which they were intended. The antennae is small and can be adjusted or folded down so it is flush with the unit. While I haven't had time to really test connection at a signficant distance from the router, the signal strength is strong throughout the house.
Overall, I have been pleased with this router so far. The price point is excellent and set up was considerably easier than several other brands I tried.
Is not reliable with some b/g items June 22, 2010 martrw (Tucson) Bought this as dsl modem/router and could never get it to work with HTC Tilt phone. The phone has worked flawlessly with a dozen other home routers and plenty of hotspots around the nation. It would initially hook up but repeatedly drop the connection. The Netgear user forums admits that it is not always compatible with b/g items. It did work with Acer Aspire laptop. Range was acceptable but nothing special. Dlink and Actiontec have better ranges.
love netgear!! June 5, 2010 feedmesushiii (PA) this was very easy to set up and i'm only a first time user! love this product and so far no problems whatsoever. now i finally have wireless access around the house and even right outside of my house!
A Breeze To Set Up; Strong Connection May 12, 2010 Zachary Koenig (Fergus Falls, MN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Setting up a wireless internet connection is often like experience the migraine headache: first comes anxiety, followed by the pain of the actual experience, and concluded with immense frustration at the time wasted. Just from my own experience (and those of a few family members), getting wireless "just right" is a monumental task. Fortunately, this NetGear product made the overall task much less frightening.
Basically, this product works like it should (no small statement in the world of wireless router technology). Just follow the basic hookup instructions, and let your home computers detect the signal. One helpful hint: Though the NetGear installation disc will prompt a hard-line connection to a base computer for product configuration, this step can easily be skipped if registering the product is not high on your priority list. Just get the cords right, and let your computer's wireless adaptor (whether purchased or imbedded) detect the network and you'll be off and running.
One of life's great ironies is that it often times takes multiple Internet consultations to set up a wireless internet connection, but in this case it was a much more positive, stress-free situation. I highly recommend the Wireless-N product (over Wireless-G) for its strength of signal. I live in a relatively large house, and each wireless device still gives me a working and usably fast connection to access the web.
