This gadget provided real savings $$$$ September 5, 2010 Anna Evangelista This gadget helped my family to save at least $100 Australian Dollars. We were planning to buy a wireless printer, to which two laptops will be connected. Instead, we settled for this gadget. Despite the initial problems with installing the software, printing has now become a real breeze. There was no need to transfer the cable from one laptop to another. I would recommend that you plan the layout of your room including the location of the printer and make measurements. It is possible that you will need to buy long cables. The cables provided with the product is pretty short.
Make inquiries before you order! There are cheap cables sold in the Amazon.com website, which was alot cheaper than what I would buy in a store.
Don't buy unless you have a couple of hours to figure out August 9, 2010 Troy Cherry (Litchfield Park, Arizona, US) I loaded the software from the CD just like the directions said, I then hooked up the switch, I then hooked up the printer to it, I selected the printer that I wanted to print to in the settings. And..................nothing, it would even make my printer twitch. I went to printer/faxes and it showed the printer grey'd out. I tried different USB ports on my computer nothing, I went to the troubleshooting part of the cd and did everything it told me to do and still nothing. I then went online to see if I could get any answers and nothing. I finally decided to go to the Iogear website to see if they had updated drivers. I downloaded the drivers, installed them and.................finally it worked. I undocked my laptop and then redocked it just to make sure it would still print. The status icon showed yellow which mad my stomach knot, but when I went to print, magically it turned green and printed. A lot of work for something that should just be plug and play....
Good product, not perfect July 24, 2010 Jim I run a home network with four computer, two hardwired, two wireless. One of the hardwired computers is a Vista machine and it does not want to print though the network (I've tried every configuration and work-around available), very irritating! The other three are two WIN7 and one XP2, and work print perfectly. The IOGEAR 2-Port switch would seem to be the solution, not a hands free-just print-like-a-network solution, but close (You must click an icon to switch computers). Until I upgrade the Vista machine to WIN7, this is a good $20 plug and play solution.
Great Tool May 23, 2010 J. Cramer 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this print server because I needed to print from my Windows XP laptop AND my XP desktop without having the network working (laptop is on VPN most of the time and it is a bother to log on and off). This device was a breeze to install on each machine and the cables provided did the job with no hassle. (I had to get a LPT to USB converter cable as well for my old workhorse HP 722C printer.)
Printing is easy and it has worked perfectly. Just hit the print button on the program APP and the switch automatically routs the job to the printer. Nothing to do on the switch itself.
I would recommend this if you can live without a wireless print server.
Info to know May 20, 2010 Erin (Oklahoma City) There is a 2 inch software disc hidden in the packaging. So don't throw it away thinking this this item is plug and play, like I did. I was busy and did not get arround to testing it out until a week later. I guess I should have read more than the just the two top reviews.
Happy ending; dumpster diving the night before trash pick up was a worthwhile endeavor.
Note this product comes with two USB A/B cables.
