Nice NAS to have July 27, 2010 J. Camacho (Bay Area, CA) Note #1: Use clean drives
this will reformat your hard drive to their specific linux set up also if you add a second drive its recommended that you use 2 fresh drives with no data.
Note #2: Well ventilate
Its recommended to store in a cool well-ventilated area (if you running two drives its a must)
Note #3: Transfer speed
its speed of transfer data does generally depend on your network connection - at first I used 10/100 then switched to gigabyte speed and found transfers of files were super fast.
Note #4: Noisy
For all its good this is probably the most annoying thing that it is noisy. Although its wired to Ethernet you can basically store it anywhere you live where you don't mind a little noise.
Once you understand Notes #1, #2 and #4 you will be very happy with your purchase and that you can increase performance through Note #3. I have been pleased with the product and would recommend it.
Really slow device July 22, 2010 David A. Corby (Oakland CA) The DNS-323 is a nice device but overall it is extremely slow. Formating the device is easy but it will wipe any data that you might already have on your drive. The drives will NOT support NTFS or anything else. D-Link decided to use a proprietary file system. Copying 1TB of data will take you over two days to complete over 1GB Ethernet.
Some things to be aware of. The iTunes server streams music well enough to computers. It will not stream anything to an Apple TV. No music or video. The USB port in the back of the device is for a printer and compatible UPS device only. You can't plug anything else into this port.
Overall I think this is a device that needs a refresh. It needs to have a faster copy time and a USB port that does more.
Excellent for Home Use and Small Business Use July 9, 2010 Salman Al Rasheed (Bahrain) After a terrible experience with a Buffalo NAS I was a bit reluctant about this D-Link DNS-323 because it's a bit old and has been around for a while.
I am glad I bought it, because it proved to be perfect and has a very large community of users on the net, just google it and you'll find so much out there.
Works great June 22, 2010 A. Bass (MD) The DNS-323 works great for my home server. It was simple to setup and none of my computers (Win 7 and XP) had issues seeing or using it.
I ran into 2 issues though one is not really D-link's fault. Issue one is my HP all-in-one printer cannot take advantage of the print hub port on the dns-323. The printer is nearly 4 yrs old but it seems through a lot of reading online that many HP printers have this issue with print hubs and it is really an HP issue in how they install drivers/software. It is still disappointing though.
The second issue is there are only really "blurbs" on each function of the web interface and nothing to explain how to setup or customize some of the features. If you are technically inclined it should not be that big of a deal to look up a couple of things on the internet or to be able to go off of what little info is provided to you otherwise you many have problems trying to do the more advanced features.

TOTALMENTE decepcionado
Buenas noches
Saludos
