All the space I'll need and not that loud! April 19, 2010 LawyerMom (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
All hard drives are a roll of the dice. I wanted to buy a mirror box because I'm paranoid, and I had heard that there was an increased risk of double failure with pre-rolled boxes like this (and my earlier RAID box). I didn't want to save a few $$$ by rolling my own RAID box because I have neither the time nor the technical expertise. I also didn't want to go with a Drobo because A) it's a lot of money to spend and to have to buy additional drives, and B) there's still a risk of single point failure in the Drobo itself. In the end, I went with LaCie because of what I perceived as a reputation for better boxes with more reliable drives, spent the premium, crossed my fingers, kept the packaging, and hoped for the best.
Four months later, I've exhaled and tossed the packaging. The drive is sturdy, rock solid, plays well with my computers, and is actually not as loud as some reviews I've read seem to suggest!
OK product April 14, 2010 Robert M. Ford (Brooklyn, NY USA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
No support yet for the Button for Windows. An annoyance, since Windows sees it and tries to install the driver. Took a while to get Windows to ignore it. Otherwise, the Lacie is working ok.
It works and it works well April 6, 2010 Mark in D.C. (Washington D.C.) I've begun editing video files with Final Cut Pro 7 on my iMac and began to experience dropped frames during playback. Problem? My external media drive was too slow. So, I purchased this drive, connected it to my Firewire 800 port, and it screams. The dropped frame problem disappeared and the editing is smooth once again. I've owned it about a month now and have yet to have any reliability problems. But my long experience with disk drives from a number of manufacturers is that it is just a matter of time before it dies so I back up my files fiendishly and pray for the best. So far, this has proven to be a reliable performer.
Great System March 18, 2010 BAS (Los Angeles, CA USA) Easy to use, quick to setup and peace of mind. I was looking for something to hook up to a central server for all my backups and this did the trick. My biggest issue was the ability to replace the drive with a non LaCie drive should one fail. I believe you can actually do this, but it would void your warranty (they have a sticker on there to ensure that it wasn't tampered with).
Great drive, just don't use auto-power with Windows 7 March 3, 2010 Alger W. Wolfe Jr. (Houston) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great quality drive and is SO easy to setup. I am VERY happy with this drive. The only thing I found that could use work (and probably on the Windows side) is that rebooting Windows 7 and having the drive set to auto power will not boot up Windows 7. Switch the power switch to always on and Windows 7 will boot up fine.
This is a great product! I plan on getting another one soon.
