Terrible July 22, 2010 MS 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I rarely write reviews, but was compelled to write this one because of the terrible experience I've had with this product. I won't recount the entire experience, but suffice it to say I had one that worked fine for a few weeks, and then broke. No problem--I called tech support and they sent me a refurbished one. But the refurbished one isn't working with my computer, and now that I've called tech support again, they say that their software (which is terrible, by the way, and has a horrible user interface) isn't compatible with Windows 7. They basically said, "sorry, you're stuck with it." I am loath to buy another Iomega product.
OK Box, Rotten Quality Control July 20, 2010 N. Condon When I first received this drive, it seemed like a typical NAS product: It worked just fine, once you figure out how to deal with the stupid, intrusive software. (Note to HDD companies: We don't want or need your useless, badly-designed software on our computers; we just want to plug in the drive and have it work!) About three months after I purchased it, during which time it saw light-to-moderate usage, a request for a file from it caused the horrible clicking noise of a dying hard drive to emanate from the box. This was unfortunate, but HDD failures do happen, I guess. I immediately ordered a replacement to serve while I worked out the warranty situation. Upon plugging in said replacement, it immediately emitted the same dead HDD clicking noise, and it never spun up. One failure I can forgive, but two starts to look like a pattern. The drive got returned, and I'll steer clear of Iomega products for a while.
I'll never buy Iomega again July 15, 2010 Roger Blonder 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What a total disappointment. Time machine does not work wirelessly with Mac Snow Leopard. First drive I received was not recognized at all. They sent me a new one - tried to charge $25 for shipping but I argued and they waived it. Got the new drive - set it up -one of my macs sees it, the other doesn't. Can't print through it. Not recognized when connected to my airport network, so I need to change from the modem to airport for printing. Guy at tech support was arrogant - as if he had never heard of these problems. Sent me a link with instructions that didn't fix the problem - told me it was an Apple issue. Yeah, right. What was supposed to be a time saver has proven to be the opposite. Total bummer.
Data Disaster! July 13, 2010 JamieB 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I had the Iomega 1 TB network storage running for 14 months without any issues. Transfer and access speed is a little slow.
Then one afternoon last week, ALL of my files disappeared. Permanently. Iomega customer support was easy to get to, and friendly, but they were not able to help. I was offered Iomega's mail-in data recovery service for $700-3,000. My office IT guys played with the unit and could see but not recover some corrupted files.
For me, two morals of the story: I will back up my backup more often (I just lost a month of work) and will probably subscribe to an online backup service like Mozy Pro.
The 2.063 SW supports Snow Leopard July 4, 2010 Ken Andrews (Reston, Virginia United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased the unit in May 2010 prepared to upgrade the software to 2.063 which I had read supported Snow Leopard on the Mac. I was pleased to find that it already had 2.063 installed. I installed the Home storage manager software on a MacBook running Snow Leopard, a desktop running Vista-64 and a laptop running XP-SP3 and all worked very well. My first full backup with time machine on the Mac (about 180gb) took the better part of 12 hours but using a cheap Fios router I did not expect any better. The subsequent backups have been as reliable as USB 2.0 or Firewire 800 setups I have used.
We have also used to unit to share out media between machines and again the unit has worked quite well.
