Great placeshifting device at a great price April 5, 2010 William Stark I haven't used much place-shifting hardware. I've used software to do roughly the same thing before though. I have to say that this is an excellent product considering the features and price compared to the other place-shifting manufacturers. Setup was a GUI guided interface that had everything updated and running in about 10 minutes. I had some issues getting a good picture on my cell phone and I still haven't gotten WMC to play nice with it but it comes with software that is tremendously amount more customizable. I really love being able to watch my satellite TV anywhere I go and it makes those monthly fees much more worthwhile. I'm glad I looked around before I got a slingbox.
Used with xbox 360 February 25, 2010 J. White I used this to burn game footage from my xbox 360. I can then burn to DVD or post online. Be advised, you may have to do some experimenting to get the best image you can. My movies are not quite as clear as the original, but they look good and small details like numbers in the hud can be easily read on an hd tv. I have not and do not plan to use the remote viewing aspect, and I did not buy the device for that purpose. This works much better, though, for capturing video than a standard definition capture card.
Not really HD February 11, 2010 Andrew Knutsen (Santa Cruz, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a very nice device, but its not really HD. The only way "HD" applies is that it supports wide formats. However it does not support sending or recording resolutions over D1 (DVD-style). Also, although it will record at 8 Mbps, it will not do so to NTFS filesystems on the USB drive, so its limited to 4GB which is less than a movie.
Singbox Competitor? December 21, 2009 WPB Consulting (Cary, NC) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was very excited to get this product, as I was looking for something to sling HD TV to PCs and replace my older Slingbox. In a haste to order it, I somehow completely missed the fact that this device has NO tuner of its own. In order to sling TV, it requires the output of another device such as a cable box, etc. I really, really wanted to like this device, but without a built-in tuner, I can't see how this competes.
Kudos to Amazon, however, on the speed of shipping as the item arrived quickly and safely. Like Ralphie on Christmas morning, I ripped into the package which was nicely organized with little envelopes for each group of interconnects and wall wart.
But, as I gawked, mouth agape, at the back of the HAVA device, I scratched my head. It was like getting the pink bunny outfit rather than the Red Rider Carbine Action 200 Shot Range Model Air Rifle.
Amazon was quick to respond to the problem and offered an immediate pickup and return, no questions asked.
Hava is better than it's competition November 16, 2009 Bill (FL USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have never owned but have had experience with the competition. This product is far superior picture and sound transmission. The no.1 plus is the capability to transmit to more than a single location at concurrently.
