5 out of 5 stars Sonos Music System   July 24, 2010
Frank Gallant
I bought the Sonos Music System for my home to be able to play my itunes music throgh out my home. I purchased three S5's and the zone bridge. The set up was easy and quick. The Sonos System is great. I have used it every day since I bought it. I was worried about the price of the system until I had it home and used it. I think now it was worth the money. The sound is great and fills my entire home. I hooked up a NAS drive and put all my itunes music on it. Now I can access all of my music without any computers. I am able to play all the radio stations and listen to music from the internet. As far as the S5 being portable it is. I move one from the house out to the patio or garage when I want music in those areas. I just unplug it and plug it back in. The controls on the ipod are great. I am able to access the system from any where around my home and just put the ipod back into my pocket. I love this system.

5 out of 5 stars It's so good, you'll think you can't afford it   July 23, 2010

If you're thinking about buying just one Sonos Zone Player, find room in your budget for more. The system takes instant gratification to a whole new level and you'll want one in every room.

5 out of 5 stars Single best music purchase I've ever made   July 15, 2010

I was dissuaded from buying the S5 initially because of the price tag of the S5 and other Sonos components, but after getting over that hump and actually going to my local retailer to look at a live demo, I was sold. I bought a Zone Bridge (a must) at the local store and I bought the S5 from Amazon - it arrived in a couple of days. I'd say from out of the box to listening to music took about 3-5 minutes - it was effortless. Originally I was planning on buying the S5 and then adding a ZP90 and ZP120 (for outdoor patio speakers). I've changed my thinking though, and just bought a second S5 in lieu of the ZP90. Reasoning - the S5 sounds as good or better than my current receiver and speakers, and it's hard to beat the fact that the S5 is always on standby and ready to go without having to hit the power button on a seperate component. I am still adding the ZP120, but at about $500 per zone, It will take me a year or so to build up to all of the zones that I would like.

Key features that I love:
1: Sonos software allows me to make both of my S5 units work as a true stereo pair.
2: Alarm Clock Feature - I can set the Sonos system to start playing from my music library, internet music, or as I currently have it set to stream my favorite local radio station. I can program what time I want it to start, and select the days that I want it to start at that time, and even how long to stay on before shutting off automatically.
3: Sleep Timer - Basically same as above, I can set it to listen to my favorite stuff, then turn off after I've fallen asleep.
4: Internet Music. I originally bought the S5(s) to listen to my music library as well as Pandora. I recently re-discovered Napster. For $60 I bought an annual subscription which included 60 downloadable songs which I would then own, as well as access to tons of albums and songs which I can add to the sonos que and listen to whenever I want (vs. Pandora, which doesn't give you specific song selection, just general artist/catagory choice).

In summary, this is one of those purchases that makes me smile every time I use it. It is well made, easy to use, and sounds awesome - well worth it!

5 out of 5 stars Wow. Just - wow. I love this thing   July 13, 2010

I just replaced my old (huge) multi component stereo system with a Sonos system and I could not be happier. Ok I would be happier if it didn't cost a fortune to do it, but other than that this system is amazing. It is super easy to install and updates the firmware on each component as you connect it.

My intention was primarily to use my music library from my iPod (I loaded the music onto a network NAS drive) but I find I use the Pandora, Rhapsody, streaming radio etc more than my stored music so far. All of it is easy to access from the controller or from the app on my laptop. Mostly I've been using my laptop to control it so far but the controller is very slick. If they weren't so darn expensive I'd get a second controller to keep in my bedroom along with the Sonos S5 but it's just too much money to justify so I take the controller off it's charger in the living room and take it to my room with me when I want music there. If I had an iPhone or iTouch I could load the Sonos app there but alas I have an old iPod classic. And even a used iTouch costs as much as a Sonos controller. Oh well - something to save up for.

This kind of system is definitely the way to go - the wave of the future. I have a small Toshiba dvd player Toshiba SDK1000 DVD Player with 1080p Upscaling (NEW Model) (Includes HDMI Cable) hooked to the Sonos 120 Sonos ZonePlayer ZP120 Add-On Player so I can still play cds etc, but mostly my cds are already ripped to my network drive so it's easier to just line up a queue of music on the Sonos app and play them that way. The sound on the S5 is very nice; plenty of bass and nice sound. It's not like a 12" sub or anything but sounds great for what it is. And I can take it out to the patio and play it there! So slick. Joe Bob says check it out.

5 out of 5 stars A must for music lovers looking for easy surround sound solution   July 4, 2010

I echo the sentiments of all the five star reviews on here. I bought two of the all in one S5 systems as I do not have separate speakers that I could connect. I put one in the living room and another in the basement. The setup was absolutely a breeze. Out of the box and listening to music within 30 minutes. The sound quality on these speakers is great and even at higher volumes rival (in my opinion) traditional Bose speakers. There were no issues with the wireless interfering (or being interfered) with the internet router or cell signals etc... The huge bonus for me with the Sonos system was that you also have access to pull in your Pandora account and can listen to most radio stations around the world that have an internet broadcast without having to be tethered to a laptop. You want to listen to the afternoon broadcast from the main radio station in Mumbai but live in Montana? Click on the radio station option in Sonos and select the station and it's sounds are filling your home instantly. Want to hear the morning DJ from your favorite station in Los Angeles but live in New York now? Sonos is your answer. Overall very pleased with the system and will be adding a third in the near future!
