Plug & Play with Mac Snow Leopard, High Quality Webcam July 24, 2010 G. Morgan I needed a good camera to use with Skype for my Mac Mini OS 10.6.3. There were few for Mac and I wanted a good one so went with the new Logitech Pro (bought at end of June 2010). I plugged it into the usb port, opened up Skype and there I was looking at myself. It works with any program for which you need a webcam. The picture is fantastic and it seems to track me very well if I gesture or move. It also picks up your voice so you do not need a headset.
Nice but... July 13, 2010 Jeff Solomon (CANYON COUNTRY, CA, US) I was shocked to discover that iMovie does not support this camera. To use it, you need to buy QuickTime Pro for $29.00 and import your video into iMovie for editing, which is a bit of a drag. That said, it is much better than the Mac camera in my MacBook Pro which is decent, but this camera blows it away.
Happy Mac user July 4, 2010 Don D. Tsai (NYC, US) This review is for Intel based Mac OS 10 user.
I use UVC for easy installation. So, my installation is simply easy plug-n-play. No installation of software or driver or whatsoever. I also use my headset for privacy. However form time to time I may use the mic that comes with this webcam, and I am still happy about the sound quality. According to my im partners, they rarely can tell the difference. I don't use auto focus feature nor movie feature, so I cannot provide info about those aspects for you. The picture quality is super. That is the main reason I bought this one, even though it is a second hand. I had several others in the past, and I had enough of the picture quality. I, myself, is also an amateur photographer. So I know a thing or two about what is the most important things when it comes to taking pictures/video. It is always lens, lens, and something else. To be short, the Carl Zeiss len on this webcam makes all the HUGE difference. You won't regret your investment on this one.
The best webcam for Mac July 3, 2010 Jay G Cowan Although I don't give it a full 5-star rating, this is a great web camera. It's many times as sharp as my old iSight, and has a far greater dynamic range (handles bright and dark at the same time). The autofocus is great and picture is very sharp, though I don't think it's fully HD. Also it works great in low level room lighting.
Yes, I would buy it again! There is nothing better on the market.
Only bad experience is it frequently crashes if used with iGlasses utility (allows flip/rotate/exposure control/digital zoom) , but this is not Logitech's fault. Otherwise it is rock-steady.
What needs improvement: the stand/clamp is clumsy...give me a screw-mount option. Also, how about some Mac software to equal what you (Logitech) offer for PC's to replace iGlasses?
Computer: PowerMacG5 dual 2.5GHz PPC, 5GB RAM.
Software: iChat 4.0.9 (622)
Webcam driver: NONE (uses Mac built-in USB drivers) It's literally plug and play.
Purchased webcam May 2010
Easy to Use July 2, 2010 Ratchanee Hays (San Clemente, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'd purchased this for my 66 year old mother in-law, who's not very technology savy, and she was able to install it herself. She's signed up on Skype and we've been video chatting ever since.
