This Medialink Wireless N Adapter easy to install and works perfectly! I'm running OS XP 32-Bit with a 2Wire router. I purchased this adapter about 1 month ago.

5 out of 5 stars One-Step Wireless   August 28, 2010

I bought this for my Windows 7 desktop, plugged it into the USB port and within seconds I was connected to the internet. No menus or installation to deal with, a strong signal without any problems. I am truly impressed with the ease and usefulness of this affordable USB wireless adapter.

5 out of 5 stars How to get more than 65 Mbps   August 28, 2010

I bought this product for a Windows XP box about 1 month ago. Installation was very easy.
Initially all I was getting was only getting 65 Mbps despite a strong signal. I contacted support and the first reply wasn't too helpful but then another support agent send me this:

Some 802.11n routers give you the option to adjust the bandwidth of the 2.4Ghz channel
you are broadcasting. Make sure your width is set to 40MHz or "Auto". If it is set to 20MHz it will limit your speed to 65Mbps.
If you are only connecting to your router using 802.11n devices, be sure to set your router to "N only" so you are not compromising your speed for 802.11b or 802.11g devices.

Turns out my Dlink Dir-655 was set to the 20MHz. After switching "Transmission Rate" to "Auto 20/40 MHz" I can consistently get link speeds of 135 Mbps and often 150 Mbps.
My router is about 35 feet away going through 1 wall.

Apparently the medialink website will be updated with a better support page. This information was not easily available in early August.

Other notes... Not sure what happened but my wireless adapter was not working.
Typing 'ipconfig' on my computer printed nothing. After re-installing the drivers the system was back to normal. I am not sure what cuased the drivers to get messed up...

I found out the usb adapter doesn't turn on until you logon to the system directly. A minor annoyance if I want to remote desktop to that box after powering it on. I don't think a PCI adapter will have this issue.

Overall, a great product for the price.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Product and performanc   August 27, 2010
E. Chang (Boston, MA)
I had purchased similar USB wireless adapter product from other vendor before. It got disconnected very often and I could not find out whether it is my wireless router or USB adapter itself. After reading feedback from Amazon, I decided to purchase from Medialink and install on my desktop, which is in different floor from my wireless router.

The package included a separate dock so I can place USB adapter on dock instead of connecting to desktop directly. After using for 2 months, I found it is running very stable compared to my previous experience on other vendor product.

The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of its menu user interface. It's really difficult to understand before reading online menu.

In general, I would strongly recommend this product for people who need to connect their desktop via wireless adapter.

4 out of 5 stars Beware of potential installation issues with (free) Zonealarm   August 25, 2010

Tried to install this on a Windows 7 PC using the procedures and CD provided. No luck, the USB device was obviously detected by Windows and its little LED flashed blue, but from a networking point of view it said "disconnected". Further troubleshooting via Windows' 7 built in network trouble shooter led to an "unspecified problem with the driver".

I tried updating the driver, uninstalling and then leaving it to Windows to find its own driver, but nothing worked.

Then via a web search I read about a possible interaction with ZoneAlarm (free) that prevented correct driver installation. And indeed, this was the case. You have to uninstall your LAN card driver, uninstall ZA (just disabling won't work), restart Windows, let Windows install its driver of choice, and *then* the LAN card works just fine!

At this point you can either re-install ZA or just let the Windows firewall do its thing. Hope this saves some others the couple of hours I wasted on what should have been a trivial procedure.

Oh yes, I get full signal strength with the USB device plugged in horizontally on the back of the PC with the Linksys G router in a different room. Downlink about 5 Mbit/s, uplink about 2Mbit/s (the latter limited by my cable modem).
