5 out of 5 stars Does require driver CD, which is incompatible with some CD drives.   September 3, 2010
    doggitydogs
It does what it's supposed to. However, it doesn't use a generic driver or one that's included with Windows, so the included driver Mini-CD is essential. However, though it wasn't a problem in my case, Mini-CDs generally cannot be used with slot-loading CD drives (the slot-in-the-computer kind, as opposed to tray-loading, the cup-holder kind).

    2 out of 5 stars Didn't work at all   August 11, 2010
    Alex
First, the card was obviously a return--the tape on the electrostatic bag was broken. Generally not a good sign.
Second, after I installed the drivers (from the Ralink site) Vista could not connect to the router at all.
I then installed the Ralink setup utility and THEN I could connect to the router, but I could not get an IP address
After a few refresh/renew cycles, my computer spontaneously and immediately powers down (!)

I tried the whole cycle all over again--and the same thing happened, complete with Vista not recognizing that I had installed the device and making me install drivers all over again, complete with spontaneous power-down.

It gets two stars rather than one because it is possible the problem is my laptop and not the wireless card (my laptop was having wireless problems earlier where it would freeze when wireless was enabled--but that was with a card in a different peripheral slot and by a different manufacturer, so it seems unlikely the two problems are related)--I do not have a second laptop to test it on.

5 out of 5 stars Old Technology That Shines   July 6, 2010
    Anthony Harmon (Pasadena, CA USA)
Quite simply, if you have an older laptop that uses PCMCIA carbus cards, and you need a wireless Internet connection almost as badly as you a weekend in Hawaii, then this card is the perfect fit for you.

This card outshines every other wireless card, or embedded solution I have seen yet. Wireless router 35 feet away in the living room - through 2 walls and a door - ?

No sweat.... 4 or 5 bars all the time

Want a wireless card that installs perfectly and is recognized under Windows XP and also sets up perfectly; even under an old DELL D410-era laptop - ?

No sweat - it just works

Want a PC card that outshines older PowerBook & PowerMac technology - ?

    3 for 3

And the best part, it was on sale at a 78% discount.... thank you, thank you, thank you.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use and fast connection   June 25, 2010
    Michael R. Stanley (Tampa, FL)
This Wireless card was very easy to use and faster than I expected. Its got a large range for reception and I'm very impressed with its connection speed. Wonderful to buy a product which works better than I thought it would.
