 Works, but not well enough July 21, 2010

I tried this antenna on two different routers and found that it did improve signal strength and distance. However, it maxed out at only about a 10% improvement in signal strength. And the Hawking didn't improve the quality of my Skype sessions, which is why I bought the Hawking antenna in the first place. The expense of the antenna for a marginal increase in signal wasn't worth it to me, especially since I got the same quality Skype sessions from the standard antenna.

This unit will definitely extend your WiFi range, but finding a good location with proper orientation of the unit can be a tedious process. I highly recommend using the FREE WiFi Network Scanner software called "inSSIDer" to assist you in positioning the unit. The software is available at: [...]
NOTES:
The Alfa AWUS036H USB2 WiFi adapter works well with this antenna.
For other WiFi adapters having removable antennas, you can further extend your range by using a Booster Amp (such as the Hawking HSB2) between this antenna and your WiFi adapter.

Just a quick review, BUY THIS!!!! Tried a number of things from powered boosters and antennas with minimal success until I ordered this. Bought a wireless 2.4ghz video security camera from a big discount membership store and couldn't get a consistent signal from the upstairs to the kitchen. My house is around 3500 sq ft, and about 150 feet straight line of sight from camera to monitor. I'd say this antenna boosted the transmitted signal at least double. I'd get spotty coverage in the bedroom and family room with maybe 1 bar, but now it's 3 to 4 bars with a great pic. Try this, it will probably work for you, and if not you can always use the great amazon return policy.
SMA vs TNC May 4, 2010

One thing that I did not see mentioned anywhere regarding this product is whether the connector is SMA or TNC.
The antenna comes with about 6 feet of thin antenna cable pre-attached to it. The cable has a native SMA connector on it, BUT an SMA-->TNC adapter is included in the box! I purchased one of these separately and if someone had just written the review I am writing, I could have saved 2 dollars.

This antenna worked very well to pull in wireless networks from a great distance. It is very directional so it will only pick up signals along a narrow beam. I wish it was waterproof as I mounted it outside and put it in a plastic bag to keep it dry.
