Wrong Purchase September 3, 2010 fashionx3chanel 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased the incorrect router. This one is not wireless like I had thought it was. Therefore, I am unable to make an accurate review on it.
Went bad after 5 months of use, always dropped connections September 3, 2010 L. Leopold (USA) I bought this router 5 months ago and it just went bad. My normal internet speeds are 20MBPS download / 4MBPS upload. Today my connection speed went down to 4 MBPS download / 1MBPS upload. After doing some troubleshooting I found that the router wasn't working correctly. As soon as I plugged my computer directly into my cable modem and got my full 20MBPS download / 4MBPS upload back. But when I plugged this router back into the modem my speeds went back down again. I tried several known good ethernet cables and ended up with the same results. For the time being(until I get a new wired router) I have my cable modem plugged into my wireless router and everything is working perfectly and I have my normal internet speeds back. I do not recommend this router to anyone looking for reliability.
Rock solid! August 13, 2010 Same (Michigan) Can not go wrong with a Linksys. Easy installation with a lot of setup options.
Runs cool and this are stackable. Comes with lan cable and instruction cd.
These are a must for any broadband user. This router will creat a network and protect you. Other users or hackers will only see the router not you!
Cisco-Linksys Router is the best August 9, 2010 Thomas W. Gibbs This is a great router. My dad needed two computers hooked to the internet and I went on-line to find a router. The reviews I read on this router said that you could take this out of the box and use it. No reading manuals or having to set switches. Before my next visit to him, I purchase a used unit and had it shipped to my dad. When I got there, I hooked up his two computers plus my laptop to the router and in a flash, all the computers had access to the internet. If you need a hard wired connection, this is the router for you.
Will not buy refurbished ever again August 3, 2010 A. Steidl (Florida) /me sighs: finally, I got good interwebz again. Having two computers, and a neighbor with shoddy wifi, I could only get a good connection on one computer. I got tired of this, so I ordered this, with which I have had great experience in the past, previously owning about 4 of these. I use a lot of BitTorrent traffic, downloading and uploading different -nix distros and other FOSS and CC files, and every other router I've ever tried crapped out on me after about 5 minutes of BT traffic. The BEFSR41 is my personal favorite, and am glad to have gotten it at a decent price here. I definitely recommend this router. I got this one refurbished, and there's nothing wrong with it at all, save for some minor issues setting it up. UPnP port forwarding is one of its features I'm glad to have, uTorrent showed all green for connections. I have not noticed any drop in network speed, like with a few other routers. Easy install, good features, reliable performance, durable case, nice-looking case, overall A+ in my book.
EDIT: Okay, I'm sad to say that I've gotta change my review here to one of negativity. I have been suffering from a broken GUI within the router (at 192.168.1.1). The router does not accept UPnP, even though I've managed to set it to accept UPnP. When I fire up uTorrent, my mIRC connection drops, and my web connection drops to about 300kbps dl speed; after much frustration, and even a firmware upgrade, I have decided to give up on trying to make it work. Soon as I save up some money, I'll be buying a brand-new router, and will likely hang this router in front of my archery target.
The only reason I'm still giving the router 2 stars instead of 1 is, first, the one I have is refurbished, and the NIB ones I owned in the past didn't suffer these problems, and second, because my problems might be isolated to just my router, not all refurb's.
