Product Description The Linksys 10/100 8-Port VPN Router is an advanced Internet-sharing network solution for your small business needs. Like any router, it lets multiple computers in your office share an Internet connection. But the unique dual Internet ports on the 10/100 8-Port VPN Router let you connect a second Internet line as a backup to insure that you're never disconnected. Or, use both Internet ports at the same time, and let the router balance your office's requirements between them for maximum bandwidth efficiency.
The 10/100 8-Port VPN Router also features a built-in 8-port full-duplex 10/100 Ethernet switch to connect eight PCs directly, or you can connect more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Item was easy to setup and is working very well. August 16, 2010 tedgaraventa I purchased this item since it was given a good review. I would have preferred if it were a Cisco/Cisco product and not a Cisco/Linksys item. I spent very little time getting it working and the client is happy. I would recommend it to anyone. I have not used the software that came with the unit to create vpn's from portable computers.... thats next.
Great Small Office VPN Router March 2, 2010 E. M. Elrod The RV082 is the main router for a network of 7 PCs, a network file server, a networked printer/copier, and two wireless routers at church.
- It's very stable. It runs months at a time with no problem.
- Supports Windows VPN client. Very useful as I can do remote support from home, from remote airports, and at times from overseas.
- Supports allocation of fixed IP addresses via DHCP. Very helpful for providing remote support via remote desktop or VNC.
- Provides a local DNS database and lookup.
- Straightforward web administration.
With only one WAN connection in use (via cable modem), I haven't needed the second WAN port.
Rock Solid February 2, 2010 V. Bui (San Jose, CA USA) Our medical clinic have recently went live with Electronic Medical Records System. We utilize a hosted solution, so a solid VPN connection with the host was critically important. We started out using a Syswan Dual WAN router. It was awful, the connection was down every other day if we were lucky. We switched to this router, the connection has been solid since the first week of November. Our tunnel went down only once, because the local data center went down in a storm. Within 10 min. we were up again with a back up DataCenter. I have been able to stop worrying about the connection, a big plus in my book. I just set up another of these at home and have enjoyed similar experience for the last 2 weeks.
Used in VOIP, the QOS option was a life saver June 29, 2009 N. Corrieri (USA) We were having a lot of problems with our VOIP setup for the office. Basically, our previous router was butchering packets causing severe latency issues on what should have been a super clean T1.
So we purchased this. The QoS routing was easy enough for a layman (me) to setup, but once we had it locked down, we were able to route all VOIP traffic through the t1, then seperate all other non voip traffic to our cable broadband connection.
This was a real life saver.
Remote management is also very handy, etc.
One of the best routers - WITH LATEST FIRMWARE February 7, 2009 Online Shopper I've tested routers for a long, long time and the RV082 (be sure to download and install the latest firmware) is one of my favorites and very stable. It's been running at several businesses plus all my personal sites as well - with no hiccups.
Very easy to configure and I love the fact that it includes a PPTP VPN server, making it drop-dead simple to connect to your LAN using the VPN client already built into Windows (no need to install software). It also has QoS service if you need to bandwidth limit or promote certain protocols / clients.
I also recommend the RV042 (hardware 1.1 with latest firmware) or m0n0wall open source gateway. That said, the RV082 is still my stable and fast router of choice.
