1 out of 5 stars Piece of junk   August 31, 2010

Wow I could have saved a lot of time and frustration if I had only read these reviews before purchasing

1 out of 5 stars Buying this router is like Burning Money: Enjoy!   August 24, 2010

This was an absolutely horrible product and I'll NEVER buy LINKSYS again. Made in China... go figure. Just the right product if you're into "Support-less Net-doesn't-working!"

I smashed mine on the floor, I couldn't take it anymore!

Making it through a SINGLE DAY without any problems, and getting on the secured network with ease, IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!

DIE LINKSYS AND ALL YOUR ROUTERS AND DEVICES!

1 out of 5 stars Unreliability kills this router   August 15, 2010
John Nolley II (Fairfax, VA United States)
The Cisco/Linksys WRT110 wireless router suffers from an absolutely fatal flaw: any firmware version newer than 1.0.02 (the current version is 1.0.07) experiences repeated but seemingly-random connectivity issues when used with more than one PC at a time. The signal strength is fine, but connected systems lose either their Internet connectivity or even their basic network connectivity altogether. It's not the ISP's fault, mind you, but the WRT110's: direct connections to the WAN function, and the problem recurs across several different ISPs I've tried it on. And as a computer professional and someone who spent several years supervising a help desk, I think I can rule out "user error."

The OS doesn't matter; I've had the problem on Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Windows Vista Basic, Windows XP Pro, and my Motorola Droid phone. The particular setup parameters don't seem to matter; I've tried every combination possible. And it's not just the wifi side; a wired Ethernet connection seems to encounter the same issues. From doing a bit of research on the WRT110, this seems to be a widespread problem, with only downgrading to an ancient firmware resolving it satisfactorily (and as Cisco/Linksys doesn't provide the necessary firmware version, you're stuck downloading it from an untrustworthy file sharing site--NOT recommended for many and various reasons).

Sometimes the internal DHCP server seems to crash, simply never assigning or renewing an address, either over wifi or a wired connection. Other times, the DHCP server functions fine, but the Internet connectivity fails (returning an unreachable network error when pinging), even when the WRT110 shows an active WAN/Internet connection. I can be connected via wired Ethernet and have Windows claim "cable unplugged" suddenly, yet the WRT110's connection light for the port is still active.

Cisco's support simply suggests upgrading the firmware, but 1.0.07 (the newest) still seems to have the problem. And as I said, I cannot recommend downgrading via a firmware version distributed by filesharing sites. Also unfortunately, open-source firmware like DD-WRT isn't compatible with the WRT-110, either.

can never maintain a solid wireless connection with my machines, drops 3-5 times pre day requiring a hard boot of the device.

1 out of 5 stars As an ISP and engineer, I can say with authority: Do NOT buy this router. It is fundamentally defective.   July 12, 2010

I am an Electrical Engineer and operate a small Internet service provider. Before we encountered this model we were a very loyal reseller of Linksys products, but this model made us reconsider.

We bought a case of these routers to sell to customers, and it was a large amount of money wasted. Every single one has been a lemon. Not one customer has been satisfied with their performance. Web page loads are interrupted. Video locks up. The range is terrible (the signal doesn't go half as far as that of one of Linksys' own WRT54G2 routers). And it uses an oddball chipset, made by Ralink; most of Linksys' products use silicon from Broadcom. This means that it's not supported by third party firmware -- such as Tomato Linux, OpenWRT, or DD-WRT -- that might work around the problems. We accepted them all back from our customers, lest they harm our reputation, and took a bath on them financially. They're good as nothing but doorstops.

Our research reveals that Linksys dropped this product unusually quickly after it was introduced, and hasn't bothered to release a firmware upgrade for it since 2009. It's a dog. Don't go near it.

P.S. -- If anyone out there is an attorney and wants to do a class action suit regarding this defective product, I'm in.
