Works June 24, 2010 MAO (SF, CA) Upgraded my local network to 1G (added a NAS device and wanted good access speed).
Seems to be working just fine, though I haven't experimented fully with jumbo frame support yet.
It just works. April 10, 2010 R. King (LA, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just plug it in and go. This is an approved switch for the ReadyNAS Duo that I have, and it works flawlessly with it. Also works with a Macbook Pro running 10.6, an Airport Extreme router, a PS3, an Xbox 360, a DirecTV HD DVR and a Panasonic Plasma (for VieraCast).
Apparently this has the same chipset as the GS108 so the speeds are the same. The only differences are the materials (this one is plastic, the GS108 is metal) and whether you want front ports (the GS108) or rear ports (this one). I went with the GS608 because it went into an entertainment system cabinet and I wanted rear ports and to see the status lights without pulling the cabinet away from the wall.
Keep in mind there is NO CONFIGURATION on this model. If you need to set traffic priority (for example, voice and video receive a higher priority than web surfing) you should look at the GS108T. And this model cannot be stacked because of heat dissipation. If you need to place two or more together you have to use the supplied stands to place them in a vertical orientation next to each other.
good device. not as fas as dlink April 7, 2010 ermy (Chicago, IL USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
the unit operates as stated. however, it appears to be considerably slower than a similar unit from dlink. looks good, if you care about that stuff.
Works perfectly, even with my Mac Mini January 30, 2010 E. Lacey (Shrewsbury, MA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased both the Netgear giga switch 5 port and 8 port switches for use in my home about 6 months ago. I have had no problems with either device. I noticed another customer reported that the switch would not provide gigabit performance with his/her Mac Mini. I have had no such problems-- this switch is able to handle both 100mb/s and gigabit speeds with no issues. I have devices that use both speeds plugged in and the switch recognizes the networking capabilities of each device and provides the appropriate throughput. I think the style of these switches is good, compared to other brands. I have one that sits in my media center cabinet and it is stylish enough to not stand out (if you care about such things...) All in all, this does what it advertises, which is all you really want for something like this.
Jumbo Frames November 23, 2009 J. Danzig (Wakefield, MA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I originally had a Cisco / Linksys Small Business switch in it's place, but it doesn't support Jumbo Frames.
My home network has numerous devices which support Jumbo Frames and using two of these increased my traffic with a noticeable difference.
Excellent product for the price.
